  1. Hello Tina! First off, I thought that you did a wonderful job correlating the author background on Fitzgerald to the themes that he addresses in Tender is the Night. This allowed to actively think about how author background can influence the stylistic and thematic aims in their works, which is very relevant to the AP exam. It is clear that Fitzgerald was inspired by the strife in his own life with Zelda’s mental illness, his alcoholism, and society’s corruption when he wrote about Dick Diver’s tragic fate. This allowed me to connect these ideas to the larger themes of the impossibility and bleakness of the American dream and disillusionment as a whole.

More specifically, I found slide nine very helpful in your detailed analysis of binary opposites that help shape imagery and symbolism in Tender is the Night. The way in which you highlighted specific examples to show the imagery of day and light contrasted with the imagery of night and darkness was very clear and well articulated. Furthermore, the final slides regarding the feminist perspective were helpful in that they offered another overlying theme that could be applied in the AP exam. Great job Tina!
